HercuList is currently serving 290748 customers and Medium has over 170 million visitors per month. Yes, 170 million. You heard that correctly. The dynamic duo!!! And that is what I would like to discuss with you today… Two of the most popular advertising platforms in the world.
I’m guessing you are probably already somewhat familiar with these two platforms, but did you realize that over 25% of that traffic to them comes from the United States? To put that into perspective, over 44 million people in the U.S. alone frequent Medium.com and the HercuList platform each and every month. Amazing isn’t it?
Medium has a few really interesting things you should know about, and these are very important so please listen carefully:
- You will actually be paid by Medium based on how many people read and like your content.
- There is no question that people are reading content on this site. The movement is alive and well, and you can and should get involved.
- Medium only lets you read three articles for free each month.
- Considering that more than 170 million people visit the site each month, you can safely assume that many of them are paid subscribers. Thus, your Medium audience is proven to pay for content they find valuable on the Internet. They have proven to be buyers.
- Any link you want can be included in your articles. By developing a readership on Medium, you will not only earn money, but you will also start to build a steady stream of free organic traffic.
How do you get traffic to a site like Medium?
Let me start by saying there is a lot of information online already about people driving traffic with this free blogging platform, however here are a few things you should keep in mind:
- A great article is as important to Medium as anything else. It is a blogging platform where many readers pay for what they read. First and foremost, you need a great headline for your article if you want them to read it. There are many free headline generators, checklists, and tools online that can help you come up with great headlines. It’s important to know you need a good headline and to be consciously looking for it.
- Make the conscious decision to be very niche-centric with your publishing. Don’t step outside of your lane. Do not get me wrong, you can write about whatever you want, but make sure that every article revolves around your niche. Even if you are in the health and weight loss niche, you can talk about a vacation to the Virgin Islands, or an arbitrary trip to the grocery store, but NEVER forget the golden rule:
It’s not about you. The focus is on THEM.
Them here refers to the people you want to be around in your niche. So you write about that random vacation trip or that arbitrary grocery run?
It needs to have a lesson or a takeaway that relates to your niche. There needs to be something your niche market can learn or gain from it.
- Most forms of free traffic require consistent publishing. Consistent publishing is the key to seeing results. Organize your time accordingly. Ideally, you should publish three to five times a week, but daily will produce the best results.
- The optimal length of a Medium story is 7 minutes, according to Medium’s data scientists. That’s roughly 1,500 words.
The last two points are as follows:
- To see success on Medium, must you write 3 to 5 times a week? No. However, it certainly is a fast track.
- Does it mean that every article you write must contain 1500 words? Not at all. Data-driven optimal lengths are just averages.
To create impact, your articles can be as long or as short as you like. On this platform, it’s all about getting attention and making a point that people find interesting.
I urge you to give medium a try if you haven’t already. Maybe you’ve tried medium and haven’t seen much success. Give it another go. I think it’s a great opportunity and definitely worth your time.
This concludes today’s post. Next time I’ll tell you a bit more about HercuList and another little-known traffic source, but for now, be sure to check out Medium.
